Flickr is confusing

I have now read all of the information I can find on Flickr and I know you can do neat things with images on it, but I do NOT understand it. The more I read the more confusedI get. Maybe it's because I don't download pictures, so I don't even get it at the basic level. I don't know. I guess I need a lot more time than I have here.

    I use Flickr to share photos with my family, which is scattered from London to Saipan, in order to bypass the size limitations of e-mail attachments.

    You don't NEED to do anything with your pictures, but should you WANT to do something special, there are all sorts of neat tools to help.
